How to rent out your truck

Updated October 2026

A parked truck still costs you money. Renting it out can cover the payment, if you protect yourself.

Protect yourself

Talk to your insurance agent about coverage for renting the truck to others. Use a written rental agreement that covers rates, mileage, deposit, maintenance, damage, late returns and how payment works. Check the renter's CDL, driving record and insurance.

Set fair rates

Look at what similar trucks rent for, offer weekly and monthly discounts, and set a per-mile charge if you include limited miles.

List it

List your truck on iRentTruck for free and reach owner-operators and small carriers looking for equipment.
